It's been a week now since I started at Innovapost. I've reacquainted with old friends that have either stayed here for the last 10 years or have found their way back like myself. The application is at it's 11th version with multiple releases having gone out for each version. It is exciting to see something that I have worked on be in usage 10 years after the making. But in application development 10 years is a good long run and the time to rewrite is at hand.
My duties for the next month or so, is to validate that the business process requirements (BPR, document) matches what the code is actually doing. It is a fairly extensive application, it has to be, since it is the front end to the Canada Post business.
This application has been the benchmark to which I compare all other applications. It is completely object oriented. Well has much has it could be in vb4, it certainly pushed the envelope back then. Now with .NET it could go even further if we are permitted to do so. Most applications that I have worked on since, have been poor implementations with no or very little architectures. So on that front it's good to be back on the application.
I look forward to the next few months, it will be interesting to see where this application is going to go and who else from my past will join the team for the rewrite.
