Being a consultant in the software development world. I move around on a semi regular basis. With that said, I have had contracts that have lasted into 3 years and others that only last a few months. Every now and then it is good to get a new start. I am putting on the finishing touches on a contract that I am leaving. This contract could have taken me into 2009, but I found that it was time to move on. I spent far to many moments utterly frustrated. I am very aware of the cause and I am also very aware that there is nothing that I can do to rectify the problem. I am not the type of person who will stick around and complain about something. I will first try to fix it or if it doesn't want to be fixed, I will move on. No need to dwell on something that will only cause you grief.
In my past I have encountered people that would be utterly frustrated by the same situation for years, but when asked what they were going to do about it to change it, they were stumped... Fresh out of ideas. I came along and worked with them and for a few months experienced their grief. The difference between me and them was that while I was grieving, I was also planning.
Now with my current situation, I have found resolution within me, I am leaving, so the catalysts to my departure no longer have any weight on me. I have resolved any lingering conflict that was there. To the point that if I need to, I could stay. But alas, I am expected somewhere else in the New Year. Nothing like starting the year with a new contract. I will be the first time I have ever done this. With a new contract comes a clean slate. It reminds me of the work of the cross. When I am forgiven, all is new between me and God. Likewise with a new contract. I get to establish new connections, to be the salt in a new environment. It is truly exciting.
A new year is coming and with that a new me to start a new contract. All very new.
